"I'm all about creating mixed-media pieces which incorporate different art forms together. i'm a firm believer in the beauty to be found in complexity, and my work is usually tied to ideas of feminism, gender and relationships."
In this photo set, I was exploring the idea of female strength through one of the oldest, most athletic and most respected arts: ballet. I wanted to invoke simultaneous motion and stasis, in order to show both the passionate expression as well as the controlled precision of a ballet dancer. These photographs aim to capture the moments in between; the motion that is so graceful, and yet so fleeting, immediately irretrievable when lapsed into time. Dance is such a rare art because it is so transient - here I tried to preserve some of the grace and strength that is always over too soon. The beautiful, strong-as-hell model is my friend, Brooke Nicholls.
