let's period party

On December 2nd, Girls & Glory will be partnering with our friends at Curio to host our first ever #periodparty. If you haven't heard this term used before--that's okay! We're here to explain.

In January 2015, it was recorded that over 500,000 people in the United States of America were experiencing homelessness on just one given night alone. While there are many struggles that those experiencing homelessness face, period parties were created to aid those who experience one particular issue: menstruating while homeless. For people who are currently homeless, menstruating can be expensive, unsafe, and unsanitary. There is little access to menstrual hygiene products, if any at all, and people are forced to menstruate without the items that many of us take for granted.

In order to help in our community, we wanted to host our own party and collect menstrual hygiene products like pads, tampons, cleansing wipes, and new underwear as well as condoms to promote safe menstruation and sex for all people. With all of the supplies collected, we're also asking for your help in putting together menstrual hygiene wellness packages, complete with chocolate and a note of kindness for those we'll be giving the kits to. Donations are encouraged but not required--we understand that these products are expensive (blah) and if anything, just come and help us put the packs together!

We have also been fortunate enough to be partnering with our local Savers thrift stores for this event. They're an incredible company with an admirable mission and have offered to collect and donate menstrual hygiene products and shampoos/body washes etc., to help our cause.

our first event

On October 21, 2017 we were honored to host the first ever Girls & Glory event in partnership with Curio. The event featured a feminist discussion panel with local businesswomen/activists and benefited Enlace Comunitario--an organization which seeks to eliminate domestic violence in Latinx immigrant communities. Thank you to all who came and made this event a success.
